This report, The Courage to Lead: Cultivating Inclusion in Sustainability, draws on the experience and wisdom of senior BIPOC and ally sustainability leaders to demystify pathways to advancement, encourage sustainability professionals to lead inclusively and provide approaches to support younger generations, particularly those from marginalized communities. It outlines a playbook for inclusive leadership in sustainability, built around four interrelated levels of action:

Personal: building self-knowledge and confidence, and growing skills;

Social: strengthening networks and relationships across junior and senior levels, growing external networks and establishing a profile using online and offline approaches;

Organizational: advocating for structural change through inclusive hiring processes,equitable compensation and talent management that emphasizes belonging and fairness; and

Systemic: changing the game by learning and connecting with different communities, sharing your network and voice to advocate for and open up opportunities, and contributing in-kind and financial resources.
